About

Heel to Toe opened in 1976 in an 800-square-foot store in Champaign, Illinois’ Market Place Mall. In 1987 we moved to our present location now a 10,000-square-foot multiple brand comfort shoe store and orthopedic facility in downtown Urbana, Illinois.

We stock more than 20 brands of shoes and have Birkenstock and New Balance concept stores within our facility. Our inventory boasts more than 12,000 pairs of shoes, socks, apparel, and shoe inserts.

Heel to Toe, Birkenstock Concepts, and New Balance Urbana has more than 12,000 pairs of shoes in stock. Our inventory includes more than 3,000 pairs of Medicare approved diabetic shoes. We stock women’s shoes from size 4 to 13 and widths of 4A to 4E. We stock men’s shoes from size 7 to 16 and widths of 2A to 6E. We have access to shoes up to size 20. We also have an extensive stock of children’s shoes.

Innovative Bracing & Diabetic Solutions

We have five certified/licensed pedorthists on staff as well as a certified/licensed orthotist who perform biomechanical evaluations, fit shoes to help people with foot problems related to diabetes, arthritis, and injury, and fabricate and fit orthotics and braces. We also have a full service shoe repair lab.

Our pedorthic staff has years of experience in caring for our customers with diabetic foot problems. We are happy to help with your doctor’s prescription or referral and can explain when or if insurance would apply.

Our most recent expansion included adding a fourth store, Innovative Bracing, headed up by Certified orthotist Dan Kopolow. The innovative bracing part of the business, and the new facility allows for more room to serve clinical patients better, which provides orthopedic bracing, foot care and pedorthic services for folks with special needs.

Heel to Toe and Innovative Bracing offer comprehensive orthotist and pedorthist services. Pedorthists use footwear, shoe inserts, and orthotics to help treat foot, knee, hip, and back problems. Orthotists evaluate and design braces for patients requiring protective support or correction due to muscle/bone impairment, disease, or deformity.

Orthotists can fit braces on any part of the body from the bottom of the foot to the top of the head. Among the conditions for which we see patients are: diabetes, arthritis, sports injuries, traumatic injuries, spinal injuries, post-polio syndrome, strokes, non-healing wounds, and muscle disease.
